Dear Heart, Don't Be Too Often Work Overtime


Hard worker, always tireless working time, overtime any rations even considered its own sustenance. But too often the overtime work also had a very dangerous risk, i.e. an increased risk of heart attack due to stress the unconscious.

Although his passion of the human body and mind, if given the chance to take a break then will experience physical or psychological stress. Various research has proven, cortisol or stress is one of the triggers a heart attack.

Recent research conducted at the University College London reveals that every day, employees work more than 12 hours are more susceptible to the heart attack. The risk is about 67 percent higher than those of employees who worked 7-8 hours/day.

The conclusion was obtained after the researchers doing the observations on the 7,000 civil servants in London. In the observations made during the 11 years, 192 people having a heart attack and is largely due to the work more than 12 hours/day.

Body mass index (IMT), age, blood pressure and cholesterol levels do indeed affect the risk of heart attacks. But the stress due to overtime work could increase the risk of 5 percent and is expected to trigger a heart attack in 6,000 people/year worldwide.

"These findings still need to be examined further to verify it, but this could be a warning for those who often work overtime especially that already had other risk factors," says Prof. Mika Kivimaki, who led the research, as quoted by Reuters on Tuesday (5/4/2011).

Same as in Indonesia, the majority of companies in the United Kingdom employing employees during 7-8 hours/day. When employees hired more than 11 hours/day, realized or not cortisol levels aka the stress hormone may increase and become a risk factor for a heart attack.
